How to play "High & Low"

Objective:

The goal of the game is to be the first player to get rid of all of your cards. This includes the cards in your hand and the cards that are placed face-down and face-up in front of you.

Setup:

Each player is dealt 5 cards (4 cards in case there are 5 players). Each player places 3 cards face-down and 3 cards face-up in front of them. At the beginning of the game each player can exchange the face-up cards with the cards in their hand.

Gameplay - Draw and Play:

At the start of their turn, a player draws 5 cards to replenish their hand and then plays one card face-up in the center.

Beat the Card or Take the Stack: The next player must play a card with a higher value than the last card played. If he/she cannot play such a card, the entire stack of played cards has to be taken from the table. The player can also choose to take the stack, even if he/she could play a higher card.

Playing from the Table: Once a player has no cards left in their hand, the cards on the table will be used. Face-up cards are played face-up (the player can see the value of the card), and face-down cards are played “blind” (the player does not know the value of the card). If a played card is not higher than the previous card, the player has to take back their own card, plus the whole stack.

Special Rules:

Pairs and Triples: Players can play pairs or triples. For example, a pair of “6”s can be played on top of a “5”. In this case the following players also have to play pairs.

Sequences: Four consecutive cards in a row will remove the stack from play. A Joker (a “3”=ghost or “2” = restart can be used to break or extend a sequence. Players can also complete a sequence by adding the missing cards.

“7” Card: A “7” can only be played on a card with a lower value. After a” 7”, the next player must play a card with a lower value.

Special Cards:

“2” = Restart: Resets the stack, and the next player can play any card.

“3” = Ghost: Can be played at any time. The player who used the “3” will be skipped, the next player must play a higher card than the card under the ghost.

“10” = Bomb: Removes the stack from play.

Players can only exchange their face-up cards with their hand once, at the beginning of the game.

The goal is to get rid of all your cards as quickly as possible.

Winner of the game is the player who first manages to play all of his/her cards.
